What is Diversion?

Diversion is an alternative to arrest or court. When a young person is stopped by law enforcement, they may be connected to a community-based diversion provider instead of being arrested or going to court.

How Does Diversion Work?

Every diversion journey in unique. Here’s how your journey might look if you’re referred to a diversion provider:

Get Stopped by Law Enforcement

Prioritize collaboration and collective problem-solving with partners and stakeholders.

Get Referred to Diversion

You’ll be referred to a community-based organization near you. These organizations focus on support, not punishment.

Meet Your Case Manager

You’ll be matched with a case manager who listens to you, learns about your needs, and helps you set personal goals.

Build a Diversion Plan

You’ll work with your case manager to design a diversion plan that make sense for you and your needs.

Complete Your Diversion Plan

You and your case manager will work together to complete your diversion plan.
